Textile Treasures: A Tapestry of Inspiration

Happy 150th anniversary Liberty, you’re the greatest! I’ll see you next September on The Grand British Textile Tour!

Hello, Voyagers,

There are so many exciting things going on in the world of textiles at the moment! Today I’ll focus mostly on fashion, but, in the spirit of our recent Grand British Textile Tour launch, I’m also including a fun new project from Liberty London. It is Liberty’s 150th anniversary, so you know I’m celebrating all year!

Cheers,
Betsy B

I love a good fashion auction. That is, I love to look at fashion auction catalogs. I’ve been on the cusp of bidding on a few things in my time, but I’ve never pulled the trigger. This month, Christie’s is holding an auction of Iris Apfel’s fashion, jewelry, and objet’s de art. It is a joy to peruse! If you feel inspired to buy, you can bid online through February 13th. If you buy something let me know! Check out Unapologetically Iris: The Collection of Iris Apfel.

I am more than willing to raise a glass and celebrate 150 years of Liberty. Of course, we’ll be visiting on our Grand British Textile Tour – ooh, maybe we’ll stop at Arthur’s Cafe in the store and enjoy some celebratory champagne on site. But I digress…

Liberty is celebrating its anniversary with The Patchwork Collective. There is a call out for quilt blocks (made with 60% Liberty fabric) that will be sewn together and displayed in the store. Get your skates on, as blocks have to be in by February 21st. You can read the requirements and sign up to participate here

Big news folks, The Louvre Museum in Paris has launched its first-ever fashion exhibition! It looks, as you would expect, spectacular. The garments are sprinkled throughout the museum, creating a connection between art and fashion. The exhibit is called Louvre Couture: Art and Fashion: statement pieces. It runs through July, and I’m sad I won’t be able to see it. If you aren’t planning to head to Paris anytime soon, this article from Harpers Bazaar has wonderful photos.
